Cecilia Valdez

Cecilia is a Tucson native with more than 45 years of union activism and leadership as a proud member of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 7026. She has held various leadership roles, including Union Steward, Area Vice President, and currently serves as Secretary-Treasurer for her local. A 1993 graduate of the CWA Minority Leadership Institute, she was appointed to CWA’s National Committee on Equity from 1992 to 1998 and has been elected to represent her district on the National CWA Defense Fund Oversight Committee.

Beyond her union work, Cecilia has been actively involved in numerous charitable organizations, including the March of Dimes, Susan G. Komen, Red Cross, AIDS Walk, American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, Working Families, and Flowing Wells School District. She has also served as Coordinator for the local CWA HOPE Golf Tournament supporting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

Cecilia’s considerable union experience has given her a unique perspective on working family concerns, and she remains dedicated to supporting Arizona’s workforce. Her appointment to the Industrial Commission of Arizona marks a historic moment for both labor and women of color in the state. Now enjoying her retirement, Cecilia remains an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church alongside her husband, a respected local union member. Her true passion is unionism, and she brings a lifelong legacy of championing the rights of working families to every role she takes on.
